Available from our office in New York City, this treatment could be the key to your weight loss!

Losing and keeping off a significant amount of weight in the long term is a constant and often overwhelming struggle for millions of Americans. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), almost 40% of American adults over age 20 are considered obese. When you include the number of American adults that are overweight but not necessarily obese, the number rises to over 70% of U.S. adults over the age of 20.

In addition to the negative impact that being overweight or obese can have on a person's self-esteem and quality of life, there is also a number of short and long term health risks to worry about as well. Furthermore, in many cases, diet and exercise alone will only go so far to alleviate the issue. Fortunately, your gastroenterologist, Dr. Azeem Khan, and his team here at Forest Hills Gastroenterology offer Orbera to help patients achieve safe and lasting weight loss results. Read on to learn what this treatment option can do for you!

What Obera Treatment from Our Office in New York City Can Do for You

Orbera is an intragastric balloon designed to help adults with a BMI (body mass index) between 30 to 40. The balloon is inserted into the stomach via a non-surgical endoscopic procedure, and filled with saline to take up room in the stomach and encourage portion control by making you feel fuller. While Orbera is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, it was developed to help supplement weight loss efforts in addition to diet and exercise.

After six months, the balloon is removed. Since the procedure is non-surgical, it is performed on an outpatient basis under a mild sedative, thus allowing patients to go home on the same day of the 20-30 minute procedure. While the results vary from person to person, many Orbera users report losing a significant amount of weight within the first month of the procedure.
